This is a political satire film I made for my first year at UCLA. Its about a Sher (Lion) who is the king of the Jungle. The animals of the Jungle are protesting the fact that Sherwani is a term derived from Sher, why do the other animals not get a wani of their own? Like a CorocoWani or a Bearwani

Origins...
Sherwani began with a simple joke while on my plane ride from India to LAX. I was sitting on the plane and though Sherwani has the word sher in it. What if the other animals someday protested against Sher, the apparent king of the jungle and asked him why the discrimination. What about everyone else's wanis. What about a Crocodilewani or a Snakewani.
I started doodling the idea on my little sketchbook I carry everywhere. It. was not anthropomorphic as the film turns out to be. I started out with a fake phamplet being distributed in the jungle about a shop advertising their sherwanis. Which later turns out to be the starting point for the fake propoganda.
I started to connect the dots to real life scenarios, how politicians and news agencies focus on trivial non sensical news rather than the actual problems and the actual reporting that could have been done, the real questions that could have been answered. I did start raging out a little so I took a brea, drank the free plane beer and returned to my sketchbook. I loved the idea. I wanted to make a comic out of it. I kept it aside and slept on it.
When I started my year at UCLA I completely forgot about the idea, but then came the time to pitch ideas to make our first year UCLA films. I was stuck. I did not have anything. I was walking around campus trying to stress myself to come up with new ideas then I remembered that I do actually have an idea that I like. That started out to be a comic but could be a very nice short film. I started storyboarding and reboarding and timing and had my first draft of the story you see below.
Sherwani uses humor to explore how narratives are manufactured and how easily spectacle can replace substance. I hope I achieved that and I hope people like my film.
